Introduction
Charts in this series show the distributions of various statistics for all libraries who were rated in the current edition of the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service (November 2011). This edition is based on 2009 public libraries data from IMLS. The inaugural edition of the LJ Index was published in February 2009 based on 2006 IMLS data. The second edition appeared in November 2009, based on 2007 IMLS data. The third edition in October 2010 was based on 2008 IMLS data. The November 2011 ratings represent the fourth edition of this public libraries national rating system.
