Changing the Valve Stems for John Deere Mower Tires

When one of the bolts on your John Deere mower keeps losing air slowly, but there is no evidence of a puncture, the problem is probably due to a faulty valve stem that’s allowing air to escape. Rather than spending the bucks to replace the entire tire when you don’t have to, only replace the valve stem instead. Replacing only the valve stem is an economically smart and earth-friendly choice that keeps money in your pocket and landfills free from perfectly good tires.

Park your John Deere mower on a flat surface and set the parking brake. Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug to ensure there is no way the device can start accidentally.

Place a jack under the conclusion of this front hanger bracket of this mower to change a front tire or under the middle of the transmission to get a rear tire. Gradually crank the jack until it lifts the mower up and off the ground. Place a jack stand under the mower’s frame on each side to ensure it can’t drop on you inadvertently. Insert wheel chocks under the two wheels which are still in contact with the ground to prevent accidental movement of the mower.

Remove the plastic hub cap in the middle of this wheel on that you would like to replace the valve stem. Pull the snap ring and washer from the middle of the tire in the axle. Insert the end of a crowbar between the tire and the rim and then press outward and upward on the tire to split the wax and wax the tire from the rim. Work slowly around the rim until you’ve eliminated the tire. Instead, use a few large flat-head screwdrivers to remove the tire from the rim.

Pull the defective stem in the rim with a pair of pliers. Insert the new valve stem into the hole and then pull it with the pliers until it’s firmly locked into position. Reinstall the tire on the rim where it was removed.

Inflate the tire to the pressure amount recommended by the manufacturer and put it back to the axle where it was removed. Reinstall the washer, snap ring and plastic hub cap.

Jack the mower back up and remove the jack stands from beneath the machine. Slowly lower the mower that the ground with the jack. Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
